we called the old video rental store my mom and my uncle used to own, "beta" (short for betamax). it was just beside our drugstore and nandun na yun even before i was born. one of the entrances to that place was a small secret doorway, 3 and a half feet high. i believed then that they made that door especially for me since i was the only one who could fit through it without stooping.
i believed that "beta" was a magical place. i would sit down on the tall table closest to the tv, remove my slippers and watch movies from morning till they close the shop.
i went there everyday.
one of the movies na alam ko pinapanood ko doon was the attack of the killer tomatoes. i know i've seen it so many times before in "beta"... kaso mga 5 or 6 pa lang ako at that time kaya i don't remember much of the story. i remember what the cover looked like. i remember staring at the cover whenever i see it displayed on the shelf.
it was 20 years since i last saw it.
i just got a copy of it kanina.
and watching it now is like watching it for the first time.
